Profile:
The name ‘Peregian’ is derived from the regional aboriginal dialect, meaning ‘Emu’.
The Village of Peregian Beach, and the enclave of Marcus Beach on its northern side, front the broad sweep of ocean just south of Noosa Heads. Pristine beaches, surrounding National Parks and an abundance of village atmosphere have long made the area a prime holiday and weekend hideaway, as well as a premier residential location.
The narrow coastal residential strip provides easy walking access to the beach, while acreage properties to the west offer spacious living only minutes from the surf. The Peregian Springs and Ridges estates to the south-west remain the fastest selling developments on the Sunshine Coast, and have now matured as exclusive residential communities.
Population & Demography
Peregian and Marcus Beach have a combined population of some 5,000 including adjoining acreage areas, whilst the Peregian Springs and Ridges developments will total approximately 7,000 inhabitants.
In the initial settlements of the 1960s, Peregian Beach was characterised by a small collection of beach houses, few residents, and a sprinkling of nomadic surfers, and has blossomed over the years into a casually chic and affluent community. Yet, thanks in part to developmental restrictions and environmental conservation, the community has retained its essential village atmosphere.
The demographic blend includes older residents, ‘sea-changers’, young families, as well as professionals, the self-employed and, of course, the inevitable holiday makers or ‘weekenders’. It is this eclectic mix that creates the village’s unique and enticing character. Many who work in the larger and more industrialised, tourism dominated areas of Noosa and Mooloolaba choose to live in Peregian for its relaxed, natural family lifestyle.
