First-home buyers eager to refinance mortgages amid concern over rates, debts

FIRST-home owners are on the hunt to refinance their mortgage within two years of entering the market, a new report says. Research by LJ Hooker Finance has found 46 per cent of first-home owners are looking for better deals despite only being in the property market for a short time.

An interesting fact in the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics Housing Finance data was the continued trend towards fixed rate loans. The data showed that over the month of November 11.1% of borrowers opted for a fixed rate mortgage; that’s the highest percentage of fixed rate commitments since June 2008.

LJ Hooker books 20pc rise in sales
